Tailormade Andalucia organises a college excursion to wind & solar energy farms

In November Tailormade Andalucia organised its biggest renewable energy activity to date - a full day excursion for a group of 60 college students from Chiclana

renewable energy excursion

In the final week of November, 60 final year students from the Pablo Picasso college in Chiclana embarked on a comprehensive excursion to visit a windfarm in Tahivilla and a solar energy park in Vejer. The students were studying environmental sciences and had been itching to experience all the classroom theory of renewable energy up close.

The group were received at the wind farm by the head park technician. We were shown the park's substation and taught about the control centre, energy production and the conversion of wind energyinto energy on the national grid. We then visited a dormant windmill where we were lucky enough to be shown inside the stem of the beast and were taught the basic windmills of each individual aparatus.

We then travelled on to the solar energy farm. The head technician gave us a detailed and thorough tour of the installations. Her explanations allowed us to compare the two energy types, their effectiveness and their cost effectiveness. The students were enthralled. They were finally out of the classroom and enjoying an interactive, engaging and dynamic form of education.

On return to the college, it was unanymously agreed that the excursion had been a major success. This is only the start of what will be a very special form of educational excursions and projects for colleges, schools, universities and associations. Tailormade Andalucia will be collaborating in all of them, spreading the importance of renewable energies, the environment and climate change.
