Seville Feria 2008

Torrential downpours try to dampen revellers spirits!

The Seville Feria de Abril took place this year between April 7th to April 13th. The long awaited and much loved city celebration got underway under dark, foreboding skies. No sooner did the celebrations begin than the heavens opened. Seville, normally accustomedseville feria dresses in April to bright blue skies and soaring temepratures, was not prepared for the constant downpours that lasted until Friday. But luckily, with the arrival of the weekend, out came the sun which did its best to dry out dampened spirits.

Though there was still much drinking and partying to be done despite the rain, organisers estimated only a 60% turn out compared to other years. The horses and carriages, the very symbol of this event, could not take to the streets until the final two days. Locals who had been going to the Feria for over half a century, stated that they had never experienced such a wet Feria in all their years.

Having had the pleasure of enjoying the Seville Feria again this year, and perhaps due to our British blood, we still found it an unforgettable and truly memorable experience. Rain or shine, this is still the biggest event in the Andalucian calendar.

Lets just hope that the weather behaves itself for the Jerez Feria del Caballo!!!
